Firstly, the new regulations will be similar to those in Australia. That will mean a greater focus on knowing where asbestos is in your building, having a plan to manage asbestos safely, and training people in how to manage asbestos. So far the first draft of the Regulations has been released but there are expected to be several changes in the second draft. These changes will likely more clearly define requirements for organisations managing the safety of people working with asbestos, and also clarify the requirements around clearance inspection and air testing following asbestos removal. However, the spirit of the draft Regulations is expected to remain unchanged.
