Provision of information to EPA
There have been changes to the Hazardous Substances (Importers and Manufacturers) Notice that will impact on all importers and manufacturers of hazardous substances.
Importers who import hazardous substances
- supply to another person
- use by the importer in a workplace
Manufacturers who manufacture hazardous substances
- supply to another person
- use by the manufacturer in a workplace (except for immediate use)
From 1 January 2026 you will need to provide the EPA with
- NZ Business Number (NZBN) if applicable
- the HSNO approval or group standard number(s) for all the hazardous substances you are importing or manufacturing
This is in addition to the current requirement to
- Name & trading name
- Business address (physical address in NZ) – if no such business address then residential address
- Website (if there is one)
- Contact details for an individual who can act as a contact person
You must also make sure that any changes are notified to EPA within 30days
Annual Reporting of Active Ingredients
If you import or manufacture agrichemicals (but not fertilisers), timber treatment chemicals, antisapstain chemicals and antifouling paints you should be ensuring you have records now so that you can submit the required annual reporting for the 2025 year when this is due in the first half of 2026
